I do a lot of part-time work to make that moneyyyyy. I love my day job in fashion PR but LA is not a cheap place to live and I have a closet to fill up with shoes that I'll wear once and then never again. (But they make me happy, and that's what matters, I'm told.) This weekend's job was seating at... The Daytime Emmy Awards. Yeeessss. Yes. Days of Our Lives crew and cast, The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, and all the other daytime soaps crew and cast showed up at Warner Bros for their Emmy chance.

Tbh I didn't recognize any of them as I haven't seen a daytime soap since approx 1997 but Tyra Banks hosted and it was fairly intimate and quaint. Not what I would have expected from something with Emmy in the title, but I guess they scale it down for the soap stars.

I walked away feeling like I had a lot to learn about daytime tv, so maybe my next step in life is to take a week to watch every Young and the Restless episode. Just maybe.

Do you guys watch daytime tv? Any favorites?

† Silverlake Lounge

I had a killer time dancing it up to the tunes of John Flanagan while celebrating the birthday of one of my biffies. (Hi Raz! I am happy you were born!)

Since I've kinda been living out of a suitcase while I hop around Southern California, in preparation I tried to pack some of the more..... accessible pieces of clothing of I own 'cause I knew I'd be getting a lot of mileage out of it. This rad kapowwwww! dress is the only thing I own by Lazy Oaf but it's sooo comfy and everyone loves it and idk bury me in it, basically. Tights were a good call for this outfit; helped keep the bottom of the dress in place, and when I flopped face-first into the backseat of a car at the end of the night, people only had to deal with a surprise purple rump in their line of sight. It could've been worse!

We went to Silverlake Ramen before the show and it was A+++++ tasty. If anyone else came to the show, I was the one at the back with my face buried in a giant to-go cup of ramen. No regrets.

† Wild Horuses

Oh my gosh, I just made a (TERRIBLE) pun from the Eye of Horus. Is that the worst thing I've ever done? It is, right? Forgive me for the indignity, ancient beings of Egypt.

Super quick outfit snaps from when I was in California over the weekend. Definitely the best picture of my so-called signature clear heeled JC's to date. I love those shoes to death, let it be known. I wore them all day as I traipsed around the Villa Getty museum and had no foot pain regret. If you're in the LA area and haven't been to the Villa Getty, definitely go check it out. If I hadn't done so much other cool stuff, it could easily be the highlight of my trip. Free admission, $15 to park your car.

Most importantly is this Freak of Nature midi skirt! Can I get an "AWWW, YEAAAH!"???

† Oh, Well

I thought I was being clever by putting together these two pieces, lolllll. Do you guys get it??? Wanted? Peace signs? MAKE LOVE NOT WAR?

I can't say enough good things about this Freak of Nature sweater -- it's soft and fringey and breathable and every time I wear it people are like, "....... Oh my gosh, your sweater." Not in the "..... oh my gosh, your clothes" way that I get sometimes where they're not necessarily complimenting it, just taking the time to note that whatever I have on is weird/unusual/bizarre and the only way they can get it across in a socially acceptable way is by framing it as a compliment. Sometimes "your shoes are really cool!" means that my shoes are cool, and sometimes it means "dude your shoes are bizarre how are they even things that you put on your feet."

I want to be like Lady Gaga -- let me explain before you roll your eyes -- where no one really sees what she wears anymore, just that she's Gaga and she probably has something weird on and that's neat and she's Gaga. She has transcended above her own self-created image and I just cannot get over how cool that is.

† SLC [tribute to] Punk

With the MET Gala being themed after the OG of cutting edge fashion: punk, then this New York Times article on the legendary Trash & Vaudeville, I thought it was time to do my own punk thing for a hot second.

I've always loved the duality of punk: priceless, custom leather jackets paired with jeans that literally could've been pulled out of a dumpster. Traditionally feminine fishnet and lingerie with combat boots and oversized flannel. And most of all, I appreciate anything that orbits a love of music.

Even though young me spent a lot of time with 7 Seconds and AFI, I don't pretend to have any kind of a handle on what punk is, could become, or has been. It's its own beast, organic and (d)evolving as we do.

So, here's an outfit with Victoria's Secret, Madonna, and Tony Hawk happening all at once.

  • garter belt & thigh highs, Victoria's Secret (similar)
  • vinyl bodycon dress, Material Girl

Also, you guys, are we Facebook and Twitter friends? I ask because I think you guys are cool and I want to know more about you, not to raise my daytime TV ratings. I'm happy to follow errybody, just say hi and let me know you're there.

† Cross Bones Style

So tired I have nothing clever to say. The words on the screen are swimming around each other. I have two things on my mind: my cats have attachment disorders and I loved the Kentucky Derby fashion.

Good night. May the combined powers of all the dreamcatcher hipster tattoos in the world grant you (and me) a pleasant night's rest.

† Girl, At Dusk, Against Frightfully Large Mound of Snow

This is what I've been dealing with over here for the last few months. I love this Jack by BB Dakota giant oversized poncho scarf jacket thing. The more mismatched layers I can pile on, the better. I got it for $20 from Karmaloop, but you can probably find something similar in a thrift shop and/or the back of your great aunt's closet.

Do you guys have any winter staples?

† Skin and Bones

Ever feel like you're peddling a stationary bike, putting a lot of energy into going nowhere? I've felt that way for months and I think it's finally starting to catch up to me.  For someone who's very fond of flowcharts and binary systems, it's hard to look out to the future and see unending opportunities to succeed or fail without being able to concretely grasp which will end where.

I'm not pessimistic so much as well-imbued with decades of pragmatism, both my own and inherited. Dreams start to feel untenable when laid out against the statistics of reality -- and aren't they flipsides of the same dichotomous coin, anyway?

I think part of growing up as a girl is feeling like you need to have permission to do something or be something, and then learning how to break through that.

Gaga says strong females don't need permission and she seems to be doing all right for herself (minus the Terry Richardson haircut) so maybe that's worth listening to a little closer.

† Good Girls Wear Cardigans with Spikes

I kind of live for these shoes + blouse. And oversized cardigans. All of it, really.

Tired tired tired days. Too bad I can't make a career out of reading fiction in my bedroom. I'm really good at that.

Is the ground slanted, or am I slanted? You decide.
