† SLC [tribute to] Punk

With the MET Gala being themed after the OG of cutting edge fashion: punk, then this New York Times article on the legendary Trash & Vaudeville, I thought it was time to do my own punk thing for a hot second.

I've always loved the duality of punk: priceless, custom leather jackets paired with jeans that literally could've been pulled out of a dumpster. Traditionally feminine fishnet and lingerie with combat boots and oversized flannel. And most of all, I appreciate anything that orbits a love of music.

Even though young me spent a lot of time with 7 Seconds and AFI, I don't pretend to have any kind of a handle on what punk is, could become, or has been. It's its own beast, organic and (d)evolving as we do.

So, here's an outfit with Victoria's Secret, Madonna, and Tony Hawk happening all at once.

I love a lot of things (RuPaul, CoverGirl Outlast, Layne Staley, hairdye) but near the top of my love list joined hand in hand are fast food and breakfast. My parents didn't teach me how to cook -- they taught me how to drive thru, and I respect that as a life lesson. I love fries, all day, all night, all the time. (Ranked Arby's, ChikFilA, Wendy's, Burger King, McD's in order of tastiness.) I am master and commander of the dollar menu. I know how to order cheaply with the least amount of post-traumatic-processed-food-stress nausea afterwards. These are life skills.

I know a handful of people who don't like/don't eat breakfast, and that bums me out because breakfast is so good. The best breakfast of all (short of like, something cooked at home, but I don't know anything about that) is drive-thru breakfast. Hardee's biscuits. The Egg McMuffin. Can we talk about the CroissanWich? During the week, I try to stick with bagels or rice or oatmeal or something I won't be regretful over later for breakfast, but the weekend will often find me (shamelessly) queued up in a drive-thru at 10am.

What I'm getting at is that I had a CroissanWich and a giant Coke for breakfast and it's sitting in my stomach like pound of lead, but it was so good. I love you, CroissanWich.

Got this shirt at POPKILLER in Los Angeles a few years ago. They collab'd with Hot Topic somewhat recently (or Hot Topic just became a stockist?) but I think most, if not all, of those pieces are sold out. I did, however, pay a lot more for it than the $24 the same style is going for on their website. The price of being ahead of trend?

Wearing an off-brand glittery star cardi that I gleaned for $5 at Macy's One Day Sale that went down a few days ago. I felt like a BANDIT with all the awesome stuff I snagged for super cheap. I'd been wanting this Material Girl sequin moto for months but the $69 price tag was too daunting. It is now hanging in my closet and I'm only out $25. Thank you for hooking me up and making me spend all my money, Macy's One Day Sale.

H&M grey maxi skirt and shoes you can't see, so will remain a mystery! Feel free to take guesses. Winner gets... I have no idea, winner might as well name their prize too.

I'm still defiantly wearing sleeveless things. I may do this until it snows. After the first snow fall I turn into small creature shrouded by a giant puffy jacket shell. Similar to a snail. Or a turtle.

Another super comfy GoJane dress. I'll probably wear it for the next two weeks. Check the return of the zebra purse and the snake girl necklace. It's like I'm accessorizing with the Animal Planet.

Any Glee fans? (Let's be real, the only people who say "Gleeks" are people who aren't fans.) Santana Lopez wore this same vest in the episode "Born This Way" from season 2.

what i'm wearing † state fair

the state fair!: a time to come together as a community and look at cows! a time to put your children on questionable spinny rides and hope for the best! a time to watch old people with oxygen tanks square dance! above all, a grand opportunity to spend the rest of the day sneezing and rubbing your eyes from all the straw and the things it hides underneath itself.

not one to miss this (never!) i prepared a special state fair outfit to serve up some realness.

here we have the army surplus bag with necessities, giant sunglasses to keep nature away from as much of my face as possible, and the maybe one opportunity i get per year to break out cowboy boots with no irony whatsoever. 

i unexpectedly caught myself loving the americana trend. two things won me over: charlene kaye in these killer leggings (giant photo warning), and the flag print JC's.
