I do a lot of part-time work to make that moneyyyyy. I love my day job in fashion PR but LA is not a cheap place to live and I have a closet to fill up with shoes that I'll wear once and then never again. (But they make me happy, and that's what matters, I'm told.) This weekend's job was seating at... The Daytime Emmy Awards. Yeeessss. Yes. Days of Our Lives crew and cast, The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, and all the other daytime soaps crew and cast showed up at Warner Bros for their Emmy chance.

Tbh I didn't recognize any of them as I haven't seen a daytime soap since approx 1997 but Tyra Banks hosted and it was fairly intimate and quaint. Not what I would have expected from something with Emmy in the title, but I guess they scale it down for the soap stars.

I walked away feeling like I had a lot to learn about daytime tv, so maybe my next step in life is to take a week to watch every Young and the Restless episode. Just maybe.

Greetings from sunny LA! Coming from the snowy doom-filled depths of Utah, I had never imagined a world where I could lounge on the beach in a swimsuit in March, but it's happening. Actually, I had never even imagined a world where I liked the beach (all that sun eww) but these days I'm constantly pestering people to go with me. 

Though just like the dog that probably can't change its spots, I'll still be there in all black.

I've started watching Bates Motel and this mini dress totally reminds me of it: I love the electric blue against black. The composition book is actually a tablet case -- so cute.  I've been using the LG G Pad 7.0 tablet lately since it's much more purse-friendly than an iPad or laptop.

It's been two months since I've updated, whaaaat?? I don't know how that happened. I feel like I'm busy all the time, but I don't have much to show for it except a tiny Hollywood apartment and 1/16 of the clothes I used to have. (I came here with 2 suitcases and I still live out of them daily.)

Right now I'm waiting for my bedding to come out of the dryer -- moment of silence for freshly washed blankets and towels all warm and delicious smelling, SO GOOD -- so I was putzing around in my old folders analyzing past outfits.

That's what I was wearing this time last year. I was in Utah and it was a rare not-freezing day, so I tromped around in the mountains with the valley spread out below me. 

Later that day I got certified to deal with blood-borne pathogens. TRUE STORY.

These days I take slightly better pictures (OR DO I?) and am more blond, but I still haven't figured out how to wear things with actual color in it. I am a work in progress, like all things, except for Beyonce who wakes up perfect.

Tous les jours, je suis hustlin'. Or in English, errryday I'm hustlin. This dress triggered fond memories of high school French class, so when it went on sale at Urban Outfitters, I made it mine. Did you know that Alouette is actually a fairly violent song about plucking a bird's feathers off its body after lulling it into false safety by calling it gentille? True story.

Quick protip for short girls that like long dresses: don't be afraid to knot the bottom of the dress or skirt! It makes the hem a little more interesting and you won't be tripping over the thing all day. Saving you from tripping over your own clothes since 2012.

I think I wanna be a unicorn. Do they have training classes for that? I don't want to mess around with mermaid or fairy princess or any of that. Give me straight up unicorn.

As a kid I wanted to be a nomadic, whip-smart, weekend goth with weird colored hair, who had limitless access to all of the stories in the world for free and minimal effort. Now I have an iPhone and the rest is more or less true -- and all I want to be is a unicorn. I think I got it backwards.

I ended up flitting around Downtown Disney when I wore this yesterday, and I swear all the cast members stopped me to say how cute it was.  I like that this is girly and classically cut with just a tiny bit of extra eccentricity.



California is hot, you guys. Walking outside in LA is like opening the door to a sauna, though (mostly) without the nakedish people in towels. Sometimes there is nakedish people without towels present. Maybe I should start carrying towels to give to the nakedish people. I dunno. I have seen some things. Things that I cannot unsee.

Because sunsets are not created equally, here's downtown LA as seen from Grand Park while one of my new fave bands, DELUKA, play some glittery rock n roll gems.

I had a killer time dancing it up to the tunes of John Flanagan while celebrating the birthday of one of my biffies. (Hi Raz! I am happy you were born!)

Since I've kinda been living out of a suitcase while I hop around Southern California, in preparation I tried to pack some of the more..... accessible pieces of clothing of I own 'cause I knew I'd be getting a lot of mileage out of it. This rad kapowwwww! dress is the only thing I own by Lazy Oaf but it's sooo comfy and everyone loves it and idk bury me in it, basically. Tights were a good call for this outfit; helped keep the bottom of the dress in place, and when I flopped face-first into the backseat of a car at the end of the night, people only had to deal with a surprise purple rump in their line of sight. It could've been worse!

We went to Silverlake Ramen before the show and it was A+++++ tasty. If anyone else came to the show, I was the one at the back with my face buried in a giant to-go cup of ramen. No regrets.

I am so tired rn I don't even know what to do with words. Big things are happening! They're good big things but good doesn't exempt them from being overwhelming. Consequently, it's a good time to know how to ask for help. I tend to be painfully self-sufficient but I'm tryin, and everyone has responded mar-vel-ous-ly.
